Are we taking feminism to far? Or are we using the accusations of sexism to favor our wants? A recent report was made on the Inside Edition about a beautiful woman working as a prison guard.
The irony is that society disapprove of beautiful women who wanting to work in a more manly field, but on the flip side, they also disapprove of them using for using to find a husband to take care of them. So do beautify women have it hard in society. Seem like they do. It seem the norm for women is to fit typical stereotypes rather than follow individual dreams.
Consider Hollywood movies where only beautiful women exist and do everything. However, it is not the real world. Sure women can do anything they want and have the ability to do, but think of prison guard that became news on Inside Edition. The possibility of beautiful women being affected by their job poses a very high risk for their wellbeing. Society expects women to do something that is more suited to the norm rather than what they want to do with their lives.
Mainstream norms would be for her to live in the lime light and later marry a wealthy man. Why does it seem that beautify women are expected to marry? If getting married means being in love, then are we assuming that one of the definite genes of beautiful women is the ability to love? If society is telling these women that they are too beautiful for anything else, but being a media icon and getting married to the best providers in society, then hasn’t feminism failed to exist?
Based on my experience of equal opportunity in a world that is considered a man’s turf, sexism is alive and well. To me, feminism means that I have the opportunity to chose from a limited resource pool in society. It means that I would be accepted in an occupational field in support of feminism not because my expertise if need or even wanted.
